Thurlestone food and drink

We are very lucky to have a wide range of restaurants and gastro pubs within a stone’s throw of Little Byfield. Further afield you are spoilt for choice in Salcombe and Dartmouth. Here are some of our favourites:

Village Inn, Thurlestone (5-minute walk)A traditional 16thcentury inn, with beams from a Spanish Armada ship. Children and dogs are welcome. Children’s Menu and Sunday lunch options available.

The Sloop Inn, Bantham (20-minute walk): A 14th-century inn, located near Bantham beach. The Sloop is well-known for its seafood and real ale. We highly recommend the mussels, which are incredibly fresh and tasty! The fish pie, fish and chips and steaks are also all delicious. Children and dogs are welcome.  Well worth a visit. Booking advised.

Bantham Beach Gastrobus (20-minute walk): What could be better than a hot sourdough pizza after a day at Bantham beach? There are a range of other dining trucks, including bars, coffee and ice creams.

The Cove Bar Restaurant, Hope Cove (1-hour walk): After a lovely stroll along the South-West coast path, this is a great stop. The Cove’s menus includes burgers, fajitas and craft beer. It’s won countless awards for its food and beer. Chilled out vibe. No reservations.

The Millbrook Inn, South Pool (30-minute drive): The food is divine, and kids can hours of fun wading across a stream to extra seating in the pub garden. They pride themselves on using fresh ingredients from their farm, organic vegetables and local fish. Booking essential. We like to combine this with walks near Start Point lighthouse.

Twenty-Seven, Kingsbridge (12 minute drive): Master chef semi-finalist, Jamie Rogers, opened this highly acclaimed Michelin-starred restaurant in 2018 in a former warehouse by Kingsbridge quay. Try the signature tasting menu paired with the wine flight. It’s pricey but foodie heaven. Booking essential.

Thurlestone Hotel (5-minute walk): The hotel has a number of restaurants open to non-residents, including: the Margaret Amelia (fine dining – no babies or children in highchairs); the Lounge (open for morning coffee, lunch & afternoon tea); the Terrace Bar (lunch and pre-dinner drinks); and Rock Pool Dining (alfresco dining 10am-7pm);

Dining at Little Byfield: There is a fully-equipped kitchen and dining table (seating for 6), as well as outdoor dining (for 6) in our patio garden. Tesco and Morrisons are located nearby in Kingsbridge, or most major supermarkets deliver to Thurlestone.
