Thurlestone Beaches

Little Byfield is situated just 5-10 minutes walk from some of South Devon's best beaches.

Yarmer Beach (5 minute walk): Sand/shingle beach with lots of rock pools at low tide. Lovely beach to swim at. It is accessible with a pushchair but no car/disabled access. Dogs allowed all year.

Broad Sands (Cowrie Cove) (10 minutes walk): A lovely quiet and sheltered beach with sand/shingle and rock pools at low tide. Good views of Burgh Island from the beach. Also very nice to swim at - can you find the hidden sea water swimming pool at low tide? Known for its nudists! It is a steep path but worth the climb. Unsuitable for anyone with limited mobility. No car/disabled access. Dogs allowed all year.

Leasfoot Sands (10 minutes walk): A lovely sandy beach with rock pools. Parking is a top of hill after Golf Club. Dogs allowed all year. At weekends and during the summer holidays, there is now a food truck serving ice creams, cold drinks and coffees. Family friendly. Dogs allowed all year.

Bantham Beach (20-minute walk): A popular beach with plenty of soft white sand and direct views of Burgh Island. There is parking (c. £10 a day), free public toilets and food trucks serving cold soft/alcoholic drinks, coffees, ice creams, burgers and pizzas. Lifeguards in the summer season. Surf lessons. No dogs from May to September on the main beach (still allowed along the estuary beach).

Thurlestone /South Milton Sands (20-minute walk): Thurlestone Sands and South Milton Sands are located next to the iconic Thurlestone Rock, which you can swim through at low tide. There is a National Trust car park (free to members) and some separate disabled parking. There are also toilets. Dogs allowed all year. Life-guards in summer at South Milton Sands end. Popular spot for kite surfing. Paddle boards available to hire in the summer.
